Double award

At the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) ceremony in Bamberg, the album “Shostakovich Discoveries” won awards in two categories.

Already in January 2026, it was announced that the album “Shostakovich Discoveries”, released in May 2025 by Deutsche Grammophon, had been awarded this year’s International Classical Music Award (ICMA) 2026 in the “Premiere Recordings” category. At the awards ceremony on 18 March 2026 at the Bamberg Concert Hall, the CD featuring world premiere recordings and rarities by Dmitri Shostakovich – most of which were recorded at the International Shostakovich Festival in Gohrisch – was honoured with a further award: the “Album of the Year” award for 2026.

The awards ceremony in Bamberg, at which a total of 27 awards were presented, featured, among others, the pianist Andrei Korobeinikov and the violist Nils Mönkemeyer, both of whom are represented on the “Shostakovich Discoveries” album with world premiere recordings. They were honoured with the ICMA, as was the Artistic Director of the Shostakovich Festival, Tobias Niederschlag, who served as executive producer of the album and received the “Album of the Year” award.

Nils Mönkemeyer also performed that evening at the “Gala of the International Classical Music Awards to mark the 80th birthday of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra”, which, along with its principal conductor Jakub Hrůša, was among the award winners as well. The livestream of the gala concert is still available free of charge on Deutsche Welle’s (DW) YouTube channel:

The International Classical Music Awards were established in 2010 by the jury of the former MIDEM Classical Awards. The jury currently comprises 20 music critics who, under the chairmanship of Remy Franck (Pizzicato, Luxembourg), represent radio stations, online and print magazines from 15 different countries.
